An automated speed enforcement demonstration project on a freeway, likely the first of its kind, was completed by the city of Scottsdale, Arizona, and the Arizona Department of Transportation (AZDOT) in 2006. A 2007 Police Chief article provided an early assessment of the effectiveness and results of the project.1 In the time since that article was published, the final report on the project has been made available, and automated speed enforcement has been significantly expanded in Arizona. 2 Another examination of the impact of the 2006 demonstration project and an initial assessment of the expanded program in Arizona can now be performed.
