Police organizations worldwide— including those in the United States—are facing calls to significantly reform or even defund police agencies, leading to a clear need for reenvisioning the role of police in modern society. While Canada is not an exception in this case, the country has been actively rethinking and changing the very mission of policing for over a decade already; thus, Canada has early successes and lessons learned that might benefit others who are in the early stages of this process.
