The IACP Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Section’s Annual Training Conference on Drugs, Alcohol, and Impaired Driving convened July 28–30, 2014, in Phoenix, Arizona, and drew more than 870 law enforcement, toxicology, prosecution, and health professionals, and other stakeholders in impaired driving enforcement initiatives. Co-hosted by the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the attendance was the largest ever in the 20-year history of the conference.
Sponsored every year by the IACP DRE Section, the three-day training event was designed primarily to enhance the skills of drug recognition experts (DREs), who have been certified by the Drug Evaluation and Classification (DEC) Program, established in 1987 by the IACP and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
