In July 2011, after a 36-year career in law enforcement and a brief period in the private sector, I had the honor of being asked to serve as the assistant secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office for State and Local Law Enforcement (OSLLE). Having previously served as the assistant director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Office of Law Enforcement Coordination from 2002 to 2008, I was grateful to have the opportunity to once again serve the United States and the law enforcement community.
