IACP Working for You

In the mission to support the law enforcement leaders of today and develop the leaders of tomorrow, the IACP is constantly involved in advocacy, programs, research, and initiatives related to cutting-edge issues. This column keeps you up to date on IACP’s work to support our members and the field of law enforcement.

Find Your Leaders of Tomorrow, Today–National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference

The National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference will be held July 11–16, 2016, on the Northern Arizona University campus in Flagstaff. The IACP is proud to sponsor a Career Fair in conjunction with this event and invites hiring agencies to participate. This is a unique opportunity to showcase your department’s employment opportunities to thousands of potential recruits.

The cost for full participation in the Career Fair is $200 per booth. Rarely will your department have the opportunity to reach so many at such a low cost.

For questions or to reserve your space, contact Jane Conway at conway@theiacp.org.

IACP Resources on the Use of Force

For decades, the IACP has played a central role in the research, development, and implementation of model policies and best practices regarding the use of force by law enforcement officers. Clearly, this issue is a critical one for both the law enforcement profession and the communities it serves. The IACP is committed to ensuring that officers respond to situations with the appropriate level of force.

To that end, IACP has created a single webpage dedicated to the use of force in law enforcement. The website includes model polices and other publications to further support agencies and address issues related to police departments’ use of force. The IACP will continue to work with law enforcement leaders and organizations to examine these types of issues and provide members with the resources necessary to keep both officers and communities safe.

Police and Youth

The IACP, with the Coalition of Juvenile Justice (CJJ) and in partnership with the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), has launched a new initiative to bring youth and law enforcement leaders together. This initiative aims to improve law enforcement’s ability to identify and respond to children who have been exposed to violence in their homes, schools, or communities; improve law enforcement agencies’ response to justice-involved youth and at-risk youth; promote enhanced law enforcement collaboration on juvenile justice reform in communities; and demonstrate the efficacy of evidence-based practices and principles to improve the delivery of services. The goals of this project will be driven by three primary activities during 2016: a Police and Youth Engagement Roundtable, a National Law Enforcement Leadership Institute on Juvenile Justice, and training and technical assistance resources.
