Identity Theft and the Police Response: Prevention

Unlike other, more conventional crimes, identity theft is difficult to prevent because it is most often done electronically, either on the Internet or credit card transactions. It is not a traditional crime, where police can deploy resources to an affected area to reduce the incidents of crime and disorder. This unconventional crime calls for unconventional prevention techniques. Instituting a local prevention campaign can reduce the problem and provide positive community relations for the proactive police department.
