California Legislature Changes the U.S. Supreme Court’s Garner-Graham Standard for Police Use of Lethal Force
California Assembly Bill AB-392 was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom on August 19, 2019, and went into effect on January 1, 2020. The new law sponsored by Assemblywoman Shirley Weber (D-San Diego) amends California Penal Code §835a, which regulates the use of force by peace officers in the state.
