Emergency management best practices white paper

The National Association of State 911 Administrators (NASNA) has released a white paper, 911 and Emergency Management: Best Practices for Coordination and Collaboration, to promote collaboration between 9-1-1 authorities and emergency management authorities. Most large-scale emergencies, such as natural disasters, involve 9-1-1 in some way, but 9-1-1 and emergency management people do not always work together as well as they could. In addition, the 9-1-1 system is the primary means by which people access first responders during emergencies, so 9-1-1 communication centers may know about a widespread emergency before emergency managers do. The white paper is a tool for local and state 911 managers and authorities to help them ensure that 9-1-1 becomes part of emergency management in their area.

Recovered firearm identification app

The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) has now made ATF’s Police Officer’s Guide to Recovered Firearms available for the iPhone/iPad. This free app is designed specifically for members of law enforcement to aid with processing recovered firearms while in the field. The Officer’s Guide to Recovered Firearms app is a critical tool to help officers properly identify and describe guns associated with crimes, which will result in more complete reports, and, ultimately, help prosecutors build a stronger case against armed criminals. This app was developed through a partnership between the IACP; Project Safe Neighborhoods; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and the Bureau of Justice Assistance.

Tactical flashlight

Invented by a police officer to increase convenience and safety on the job, the QuiqliteX Rechargeable Red/White Light is a hands-free, concealed LED light source. It is designed to clip on the inside of a uniform’s shirt pocket or attach to a MOLLE. Small and compact, the Red/White LED light preserves officers’ night vision on tactical applications. A single on/off button, easily activated through the shirt pocket, operates three modes of operations: red LED night vision light, white LED light, and the flashing Red/White personal emergency strobe. For searching a crime or accident scene, the QuiqliteX also provides a “Power Boost” mode that increases the white light output from 10 lumens to a more powerful 75-lumen searchlight function.

The newly released, patent-pending ExtraCarry Mag Pouch allows users to carry spare ammo concealed. It is lightweight and ambidextrous. Body-camera solution

Offered by VP360 and incorporating technology from Soleratec, Zadara Storage, and Lightstream, the VP360 Argus enables law enforcement agencies to choose either an on-premise, yet as-a-service solution, or a cloud-deployed approach. This on-premise or cloud availability is appealing to agencies who may be skittish about placing evidence on multi-tenant solutions that potentially can create security and chain of custody issues—as can be an issue with the leading cloud-only solutions—but still need the cloud’s elasticity, scalability, and economics. With VP360 Argus, law enforcement agencies can pay as they grow, yet the asset remains behind their firewall if that is their preference. It includes a camera, digital evidence management system software, data-center grade storage, provided and paid for as a service, and system integration.

Firearms safety device

Blok Safety Systems LLC announces the updated version of its popular Barrel Blok safety device. Increasing the safety and realism of the firearms training industry, the magazine insert called MagBlok is a cartridge-shaped device that is inserted into the top of an empty magazine. The specially engineered tool allows two important mechanical functions to be performed when it is properly inserted. First, it prevents the magazine follower from engaging the slide stop lever. This prevents “slide lock” when training with an empty magazine. Second, a ramp channel on its top allows for the full back-and-forth movement of the slide. This tool is designed to provide a completely safe firearm and magazine, while maintaining the full mechanical functionality of the firearm while training.

RT LTA Systems Ltd., the world-class designer, developer, and manufacturer of the SkyStar family of aerostats introduces the new ELTA made payload. The new payload is integrated and will be deployed on the company’s newest aerostat, the SkyStar 330. The new payload, ELI-3332, is an advanced aerostat-borne intelligence payload especially designed to overcome obstacles of Line Of Sight (LOS) and perform continuous ground intelligence and surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions. The system detects, identifies, and tracks targets in areas of interest and creates a real-time situational awareness picture.
