Electric battery–operated vehicle

Oxygen World Inc. has started U.S. distribution of its electric battery–operated Oxygen CargoScooter. This follows a successful program in Europe where the Swiss Post utilizes 2,000 of the vehicles, making Oxygen the largest supplier of battery-operated scooters for professional use. The scooters are recharged from simple electrical outlets, are designed to save up to 90 percent on energy costs versus fuel-powered scooters, and are capable of covering distances of up to 75 miles on a single charge. In the United States, Oxygen is launching the scooter commercially to fleets, municipalities, and businesses.

The In Motion Technology onboard system includes the onBoard Mobile Gateway, which is designed to transform vehicles into secure hotspots; a network management system that monitors network health and communications; and a mobile-optimized virtual private network server providing end-to-end security. The onBoard Mobile Gateway is intended to improve operational efficiency for first responders.

With experts predicting fuel prices will reach record highs in 2012, the fuel efficiency of the new Ford Police Interceptors has the potential to help cash-strapped U.S. cities reduce their fuel bills. Ford engineers tuned the Police Interceptor sedan and utility vehicle models to save fuel even when they are standing still, with no sacrifice to pursuit performance. The city and highway fuel economy ratings for the new Police Interceptors have increased by 25 percent over the retired Crown Victoria.

Lockheed Martin and ZyGEM Corp. Ltd. Announce plans to release a version of their rapid DNA analysis platform that is designed to simplify and speed DNA analysis for human identity testing.
