Legislative Alert: President’s Proposed Budget for 2006 Would Slash Law Enforcement Assistance Programs

In February 7, President Bush released his proposed budget for fiscal year 2006. Overall funding levels for programs that are primarily designed to assist state and local law enforcement agencies were slashed by $1.467 billion compared to fiscal year 2005. This includes funding for assistance programs at both the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security.
