While we all hope that our communities will remain safe, every law enforcement agency has to be prepared for the possibility of a critical incident occurring in their jurisdiction—an active shooter, a terror attack, a natural disaster, or another type of crisis. The work of law enforcement in a critical incident includes not only serving as first responders to stop the threat and mitigate harm, but continues on after the event to include communicating with the community and media, ensuring officers’ resiliency and recovery, investigating the incident, and helping the community recover.
