In 1994, a law was added to the U.S. Code directing that the flag of the United States be flown at half-mast on all government buildings on May 15, National Peace Officers Memorial Day. Police executives are encouraged to ensure that local jurisdictions alsoparticipate in this observance and lower the flag to half-mast on Tuesday, May 15, 2007.
