The topic of police officer training comes up often in discourse surrounding high-profile incidents, and law enforcement leaders recognize the importance of training officers from the moment they are hired, through the day they retire. Despite what many people think of as “police training,” modern-day officers need to be trained in much more than tactical skills as the role of officers as problem-solvers becomes more prominent, requiring that they be trained in areas such as emotional intelligence, resilience, and decision-making.
