Emergency signal systems
Tapeswitch Corporation introduces two new pressure-sensitive emergency signal systems: the AlertSwitch System and the AlertSwitch System with built-in LEDs for increased visibility. Redesigned wristband transmitter
Project Lifesaver introduces a redesigned direction-finding system that increases the effective range for searches by as much as 300 percent. The new system has been jointly developed by Project Lifesaver over the past year with Marshall Radio Telemetry of North Salt Lake, Utah. In addition to increased range, the new wristband transmitters have double the battery life (60 days) of the original; programmable custom frequencies; and are completely waterproof, shockproof, and temperature compensated to ensure the signal does not drift when moving from indoor to outdoor situations.

Biological detection technologies
Smiths Detection announces a worldwide partnership with ANP Technologies for its immunoassay technology, which is used to verify the presence of biological threats in the field. Smiths Detection recently began to market the Nano-Intelligent Detection System (NIDS) through its global distribution network, alongside Prime Alert and BioChief Bio-Detection kits. Used together with NIDS, these technologies allow rapid threat assessment and identification of bioagents such as the microbes that cause anthrax and tularemia and biotoxins including ricin and botulinum.

New court scheduling tools allow court administrators to schedule multiple court dates and times for up to a year in advance. Enhancements have been announced to QiSOFT’s POLICEintel program, a real-time intelligence web-based sharing portal for data-driven crime fighting. The core elements of the program remain, particularly the shift-to-shift information sharing tool. New to the program are modules for retail crime prevention—Retail Stop Loss—and for citizens’ reporting of suspicious activity—iWatch. Since information is contained in a web-based portal, intelligence from different sources is easily assimilated and presented to the law enforcement officer. Dangerous substance recognition
Chemical suicides result from the combination of common household chemicals that emit toxic gas, most notably hydrogen sulfide. Victims will quickly asphyxiate in confined areas.
