Collision reporting center
Accident Support Services International Ltd. (ASSI), announces its partnership with the Medicine Hat Police Service in the operation of a new Collision Reporting Centre (CRC). The Medicine Hat CRC provides the public a faster and safer response to property damage collisions. The CRC is funded entirely by supporting insurers so there is no cost to the police service or local taxpayers. Collisions eligible for reporting at the Centre are property damage collisions where there are no injuries and no criminal offenses involved. ASSI operates 27 Collision Reporting Centres in Ontario and Alberta. Twenty-four additional jurisdictions utilize ASSI’s CROMS program as their electronic collision and records management database.

Handheld fingerprint identification device
MorphoIDent, a handheld mobile fingerprint identification device provided by MorphoTrak, a U.S. subsidiary of Morpho (Safran), allows patrol officers to identify wanted or dangerous persons in the field without transporting them to a patrol station. With an interface to the FBI’s Repository for Individuals of Special Concern (RISC), officers are even able to tell if the person is wanted in another state. The national RISC database includes approximately 2 million records of wanted persons, sex offender registry subjects, and known or suspected terrorists. In addition to determining true identity when a person gives a false name or has no ID, MorphoIDent can clear someone with the same name as another person, or confirm identification of incapacitated or deceased individuals.

Voice-over-IMS and RCS presence technology demonstration
Alcatel-Lucent carried out a key demonstration of its Voice-over-IMS and RCS presence technology to the Board of FirstNet (the First Responder Network Authority) at the Boulder, Colorado, laboratories of the U.S. Department of Commerce as part of the federal Public Safety Communications Research program. The demonstration set out to showcase the application of Voice-over-IMS (Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem), providing a foundation for how multiple agencies such as police and fire can deploy fully interoperable technologies. RCS leverages the interoperability and ubiquity of voice- and text-based SMS communications, and enriches it with Internet-type features. ♦
