American humorist, author, and outdoorsman, Corey Ford, was once quoted as saying, “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” These words seem almost prophetic within the law enforcement community in light of the ever-increasing number of reports involving officer responses and reactions to the presence of dogs during otherwise human-specific related incidents such as traffic stops; responding to calls for service in residential and commercial settings; or, simply, while the officer is on routine tour out in the public.
