Each day in the lives of local and international law enforcement professionals requires balancing officer safety concerns with serving and protecting citizens and communities. It’s no secret that law enforcement officers face danger, but many officers say they do so to make a positive difference, to help those less fortunate, or to serve as guardians in their communities. Whatever the reason is, police officers choose to take an oath that requires them to serve and protect their community in multiple ways. Police officers taking care of the community is what the job is all about—and it should be. However, law enforcement officers should not forget to take care of themselves and each other in the process.
