We use nonsworn personnel called police service specialists (PSSs) to respond to calls for service deemed not to require a police officer. The PSSs conduct investigations of delayed reports of property crimes and crimes against persons. They interview victims and witnesses and collect evidence. To date, the PSSs have handled over 1,800 calls for service for our patrol division.
