Gas mask
MSA announces its Millennium CBRN gas mask, a NIOSH-certified full-face air-purifying respirator (APR). The mask is designed to provide first responders with effective respiratory protection against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) agents that might be used in a terrorist attack. MSA’s Millennium gas mask incorporates a flexible one-piece polyurethane lens with wide field of vision bonded to a durable Hycar rubber facepiece. A drinking tube provides connection for hydration. The Millennium dual-canister mount allows for weapon sighting from either shoulder. The mask is easy to don, adjust, and remove. An internal nose cup deflects air from the lens to prevent fogging. A standard mechanical speaking diaphragm is included. A butyl-coated nylon hood is also available for head protection.

Lights
INOVA, a leader in LED lighting, introduces the T Series, a law enforcement line of four backup and duty lights (including a rechargeable model) designed to have effective ranges from 175 to 300 feet. All four T Series models feature the proprietary, patent-pending TIROS optical system from INOVA that captures and projects more than 90 percent of the light output. CommuniCard announces the Police Traffic CommuniCard, pocketsize cards designed to help English-speaking police officers communicate with motorists who speak only Spanish. The cards feature pictures that communicate such common traffic-stop instructions such as “May I see your ID and insurance?” and “You exceeded the speed limit.” CommuniCards are available as laminated pocket guides and decks, each one focusing on a specific task area for construction, lawn care, housekeeping, and police traffic stops.

Electronic beacon
Designed to replace dangerous incendiary road flares, the electronic beacon from PowerFlare is an LED light about the size of a hockey puck. It is designed to be strong enough to withstand being run over by large trucks, even at highway speeds. The electronic beacon is nonflammable, making it safe for use at hazmat scenes and safe to store in the trunk of a police cruiser, and it can be attached to officers’ belts and vests to increase visibility. It can also be used as a personal safety light for search-and-rescue personnel and bicyclists, and as a marker for helicopter landing zones.

Warning buzzers
Cole Hersee Company, a leading manufacturer of heavy-duty electrical and electronic products for the vehicle industry, introduces its line of warning buzzers and alarm kits designed to alert drivers of emergency vehicles that a system has either failed or reached a dangerous level that could escalate to failure. The low air pressure alarm kit, for instance, sounds a warning buzzer when air pressure is too low to safely operate the brakes. Combination metal detector and flashlight
Tactical Scanners announces the Tactical ScanLite, a rechargeable flashlight and metal detector in one compact unit. The Tactical ScanLite, which has a flashlight on one end and a metal detector on the other, is designed to be worn on the duty belt of law enforcement and security personnel. Powered by four Sanyo NiMH double-A rechargeable batteries, the ScanLite features a high-intensity xenon gas-filled lamp and a one-inch machined aluminum reflector. The unit weighs 12 ounces and is designed to have a run time of up to two hours of continuous flashlight use. Search mirrors
Security equipment specialist PW Allen has redesigned its popular CEM series of search mirrors. The telescopic CEM series is used for a wide range of visual search activities by customs, border control, police, corrections, military, and counterterrorist officers. An under-vehicle rechargeable trolley mirror is also part of the range. Designed to search inaccessible areas, CEM units provide a long-reach telescopic arm with optional light pod. The lightweight five-section arm has an injection-moulded, locking mechanism that holds the arm in the extended position during use. The light pod assembly contains six ultrabright LEDs.

Power-failure light
Panasonic introduces its SQT555 power-failure light, a bright six-watt fluorescent lamp that automatically turns on during power outages and, to conserve energy, automatically shuts off when power is restored. It is designed to provide functional lighting that covers a wide area for up to seven hours before needing to be recharged. Plug the unit into the AC adaptor and a full charge will be reached in 10 hours. To help preserve battery life, an electronic battery protection system prevents the battery from being overcharged or fully drained. In addition, the unit can be mounted to the wall, allowing easy access when needed.
