Speed display
All Traffic Solutions introduces speedALERT, a roadside message system that combines the company’s instALERT Rapid Messenger message board and its SPEEDsentry radar speed display. As a compliant motorist approaches a speedALERT unit, the speedALERT flashes a public safety message selected by the user. Night vision unit
ITT Industries Night Vision introduces the Night Enforcer PVS-14, designed to allow officers to perform critical night operations while safely staying out of sight. Member tested and recommended by the National Tactical Officers Association, this third-generation night vision unit is designed for use as either a handheld or amounted unit. It attaches to 35-millimeter SLR cameras or camcorders. The variable gain control feature allows users to manually compensate for frequent changes in lighting.

Paging terminal
Zetron Inc. announces the availability of the Model 2700 Zetron Message Gateway. The Model 2700 employs a Microsoft Windows operating system with a network of custom software paging applications. This paging terminal is designed to have a capacity of up to 1 million subscribers in a single chassis. Other benefits of the Model 2700 include the ability to support most popular paging formats (including POCSAG and FLEX) and the use of T1, E1, or analog trunks. The Model 2700 features dual online hot-swappable power supplies: if one power supply fails, the system is designed to continue to operate. It also features RAID 1 mirrored, hot-removable system disk drives designed to protect against corrupted data and disk failure, as well as the loss of messages or custom greetings.

Portable trace detector
Smiths Detection, a provider of trace detection and x-ray security screening equipment, announces that its Sabre4000, a handheld detector, has been received the 2005 product of the year award in the chemical detection market from Frost & Sullivan. The Sabre4000 is a portable trace detector designed to identify more than 40 different threats from explosives, chemical warfare agents (CWAs), toxic industrial chemicals (TICs), and narcotics in less than 10 seconds. Ion mobility spectrometry (IMS), which analyzes microscopic traces of particles, is the core technology in the Sabre4000. IMS is designed to identify a substance and immediately alarm the operator, which is vital to first responders and law enforcement agents, and the military.

Wireless network
Motorola announces the arrival of its Mesh Enabled Architecture (MEA), a flexible and scalable wireless network designed to maximize performance and bandwidth. MEA’s self-forming and self-balancing routing is designed to allow wireless devices to become the network, which means that there is no need for a tower. MEA networks comprise four hardware and software elements: the wireless modem card for clients, the mesh wireless router, the intelligent access point, and the mobile Internet switching controller. MEA networks are designed to allow public safety agencies to use their existing applications and mobile devices.

Pistols
The Kimber Custom Shop introduces the Raptors, two .45-caliber ACP pistols. The Raptor II is a full-size 1911 pistol with a five-inch match-grade stainless steel barrel, chamber, and barrel bushing. The steel slide and frame carry a high-polish finish on the flats with matte over the curves. Features include three-dot (green) Meprolight night sights, ambidextrous thumb safety, and blackened aluminum trigger. The Pro Raptor II has a four-inch match-grade bull barrel and chamber, and the barrel is fitted directly to the side without a bushing.

Radar-detector detector
Stalker Radar announces that it is the exclusive United States source for the Spectre III radar-detector detector for use police patrol vehicles. The Spectre III is designed to detect radar detectors by sensing microwave leakage from the devices. The Spectre III is engineered to detect all radar detectors certified for use in the United States by the Federal Communications Commission as of December 2004, including models that feature cloaking and VG-2 Alert. The Spectre III mounts on the vehicle’s windshield and can be rotated a full 360 degrees. It is designed to monitor traffic in front or behind in either stationary or moving mode. Underwater Kinetics (UK), a leader in specialty lighting solutions, introduces the eLED UniLite, a flashlight that has a 360-degree rotating head and is designed to generate daylight-quality illumination and boasts. A product extension of the UniLite series, the eLED version of the UniLite has a high-intensity, long-lasting white LED lamp. The flashlight comes standard with a nylon pocket clip and a stainless steel ring attachment. An optional wall mount is designed to allow the light to be used as a nonrechargeable emergency light.

Vehicle identification system
Reno A & E’s announces its automatic vehicle identification (AVI) system, which is designed to allow priority vehicle access to secure areas. The device is engineered to give vehicles equipped with a uniquely coded AVI transmitter automatic access to areas secured with equipment controlled by a similarly coded AVI receiver, thus reducing response time when gaining access to these areas. The unit is designed to be permanently mounted to the vehicle, making it more difficult to lose or steal. The AVI transmitter is designed to operate from the vehicle’s electrical system and to require no adjustments or setup after installation.

Enhanced maps for dispatch
Pictometry International Corp and Positron Public Safety Systems announce that Pictometry’s measuring software and digital aerial photo databases will be embedded as a built-in component of the Positron Power MAP product. The combined product is designed to allow dispatchers using Positron’s Power MAP not only to bring up a detailed map of an inbound caller’s location but also to inspect the incident scene using Pictometry’s high-resolution aerial images. Pictometry’s software is designed to enable users to access up to 12 different oblique (that is, at an angle) views of any property, building, highway, or other feature in a county and to obtain measurements such as distance, height, elevation, and area.

Remote monitoring system
IdentiWhere announces the VS1000 Virtual Stakeout System, a device designed to strengthen police patrol by providing first-party early warning of violent crime in progress through wireless alarms installed in cash drawers or concealed wireless panic buttons carried by onsite personnel. Engineered to allow a single patrol officer to monitor multiple high-risk robbery targets remotely, the wireless device communicates with a central receiver and controller on site that, in turn, selectively notifies one or more patrolling officers by way of a wireless cellular device they carry or have installed in their patrol car.
