L-3 Mobile-Vision announces an upgraded version of its mobile video recording system for law enforcement. Key new features of the System 7 PRO include built-in GPS, which is designed to provide longitude, latitude, and vehicle speed as well as set the system clock and synchronize all agency vehicles to actual time; a VCR engineered to withstand impact, temperature extremes, dust, and tampering; a compact universal monitor console with backlit controls and flexible mounting hardware; L-3 Mobile-Vision’s patented VoiceLink Plus 900-megahertz wireless microphone, now a standard feature; and the Nite-Watch enhanced lowlight color camera designed to have 32 times the sensitivity of standard cameras.

Weather station
Climatronics Corporation introduces the TACMET II portable weather station, a compact, self-contained system specifically configured and packaged to meet real-time weather data requirements for hazmat and homeland security. By design, weather data collected by the station can be displayed on a laptop or PDA, analyzed using Climatronics WeatherView or other software, and transmitted by wire or wirelessly. Designed to be deployable in less than five minutes, the TACMET II portable weather station can be mounted on a mobile command center, tripod mounted, or hand held.

Computer case
Pelican Products Inc. announces the 1495 case for laptop computers. With nearly 1,000 cubic inches of usable storage space, the 1495 is designed to protect all sizes of laptops up to 17 inches and hold accessories such as power cables, digital storage drives, and other electronics. The 1495 also features an integrated, programmable combination lock and stainless-steel-reinforced padlock protectors. The 1495 laptop case is engineered with a high-impact structural resin and an open cell-core wall construction designed to protect sensitive equipment from harsh conditions. Additional standard features include a lid equipped with a polymer O-ring for a dustproof and waterproof seal, dual-action latches that have been tested to a failure threshold of nearly 400 pounds, and an automatic Gore-Tex pressure equalization valve that prevents vacuum lock.

Video surveillance
Detector Electronics announces xWatch, a video surveillance system designed to provide high-resolution monitoring of remote or hard-to-access hazardous areas. The xWatch monitoring system, combined with a Det-Tronics X-Series flame detector, views a 90-degree cone of vision, and its continuous, real-time video is designed to provide the operator with surveillance capabilities during normal operation. Users can add a video switcher or server for a live video feed and view the output on a DVR or computer monitor. Video recording equipment provides the ability to review all activity before, during, and after the event occurs.

Light
Insight Technology Inc. introduces the H2X Typhoon, a weapon-mountable light designed to provide up to 80 lumens of high-intensity light from a shockproof LED. Using a digitally managed circuit in the tail cap that controls the power and heat output, the Typhoon is designed to operate in constant, momentary, strobe, dimming, and lock-out modes. Engineered to have a 90-minute run time at the highest setting and 400 hours at the lowest setting, the unit has a low-battery indicator that lets the user know when to replace the two three-volt DLR123A lithium batteries. The Typhoon has a hard-coat anodized aluminum body with an anti-roll tail cap and is designed to be waterproof to a depth of 66 feet.

LEDCO introduces the CF29X TuffDock Station for the Panasonic CF27, CF28, CF29, and CF30 Toughbooks. Features include spring-loaded connector head to maintain connectivity, a fully integrated power supply designed to eliminate the need for a bulky external power brick, antitheft components, a fully powered USB 2.0 designed to accommodate most low-tier out-of-specification peripherals, improved unibody design with polymer side rails, and an integrated mounting bracket with cable strain relief for ease of installation and faster rollouts.

Portable computer
ACME Portable Machines Inc. announces the FLP-200, a rugged portable computer about the size of a fat attaché case. The FLP-200 features an Intel T2500 two-gigahertz Core Duo processor backed by a minimum of 512 megabytes of memory (expandable to two gigabytes) and is designed for police and other field applications. Providing two full-length internal slots for 32-bit PCI cards and one mini-PCI connector, ACME’s open-systems portable is designed to allow a user to customize the system for a specific application without adding an expansion chassis or going to a bulky case, and to run that system in the field for extended periods on battery power without interruption.

Evidence photograph storage
LynxPM introduces the Enterprise Master Database for securing and managing digital evidence photos. Enterprise is designed to make it easier for law enforcement users to acquire, annotate, and secure evidence photos, videos, audio files, or webcam images into a 256-bit encrypted Microsoft SQL database for later retrieval. It is also designed to help evidence managers quickly find photos and videos using personalized search fields or date ranges and control who can view, print, or share the evidence. By design, users can view photos securely across a department’s network and the World Wide Web and integrate Enterprise into a record management system using dynamic hyperlinks. Enterprise is designed to provide selective control over user and user groups along an audit trail.

Digital photo printers
Fujifilm U.S.A. Inc. unveils the ASK-4000 and ASK-2000 high-speed digital photo printers, designed to help law enforcement agencies produce high-quality prints for crime scene photos, mug shots, evidence photos, and photo I.D. printing. The ASK-2000 and ASK-4000 digital printers use Fujifilm’s chemical-free dye-sublimation print technology. This method involves an ink ribbon, heated by a thermal head and coated with dye, which transfers the dye onto special coated paper. The paper absorbs the dye to form visible images and is then sealed by a protective UV overcoat layer to provide a water-resistant barrier.

Armor Web site
Composite Armor Services introduces a new Web site designed to provide information on the Defender series hard body armor. Defender body armor is fully encapsulated, so that it is impervious to perspiration, oil, water, heat, humidity, and other environmental factors. The new Web site, www.compositearmorservices.com, details the stab- and slash-resistant Defender vests, which are manufactured from readily available materials and contain no Kevlar. Defender Series vests are designed to provide 224 square inches of protection, and the panels are engineered to be fully serviceable even after repeated incidents.

Mobile computers
Glacier Computer introduces its Magnum series of police, fire, and emergency vehicle computers. Available with a 12-inch sunlight readable color display, the Magnum series offers an array of processor options, from a 600-megahertz Celeron up to a 1.4-gigahertz Pentium M, and up to a gigabyte of DRAM. The computers are designed not to interfere with air bags and to be operable with touch screens. They feature LCD on-off buttons, internal 12-volt converters, a custom onboard diagnostic and configuration utility, and screen brightness controls. The diagnostic utility is designed to provide public IT personnel with flight recorder–like data, as well as real-time access to key statistics such as processor temperature, reboots, and so on.

Airaya, developer of outdoor wireless multipoint and backhaul WirelessGRID systems developed for high-capacity public safety networks, announces that the Airaya WirelessGRID has been approved for use in telecommunications systems to borrowers in the Rural Broadband Access Loan and Loan Guarantee Program. WirelessGRID systems are designed to deliver high speed, low latency, and cost effectiveness in applications connecting VoIP networks and wireless security surveillance systems.
