High-Mobility protected tactical vehicle

Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation, introduces the Tactical Protector Vehicle (TPV). The Oshkosh TPV is designed to meet the tough challenges faced by today’s law enforcement officers in both tight urban settings and rugged rural environments. Its modular armor systems can be custom-configured to serve a variety of tactical needs. With armor protection ratings from NIJ Level I to Level IV, the TPV has the capability of stopping multihit, armor-piercing ammunition. The high energy absorbing underbody armor, ballistic steel roof, and suspended seat systems provide optimum safety and security for vehicle occupants. The TPV carries up to eight people and is available with a transport variant payload capacity of 3,650 pounds and a utility variant payload capacity of 4,650 pounds. Its turning circle is less than 42 feet curb-to-curb, and the maximum speed is 75 mph. With selectable four-wheel drive and 13 inches of ground clearance, the TPV can handle the roughest terrain and obstructions.

Tele-operated unmanned ground vehicle

Frontline Robotics has developed a remote controlled/tele-operated vehicle called the TUGV (Tele-Operated Unmanned Ground Vehicle) to address threats from large explosives and vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs). Robots currently used for VBIED disruption are severely limited in their capabilities. The mission requirements for VBIED disruption require disruptors that weigh 150 kg to 700 kg be towed long distances to the VBIED or other explosive threat. A battery-operated EOD robot does not have the power, load, or towing capacity to meet these requirements. The TUGV was designed to excel in areas where the others failed, providing first-responders a multipurpose vehicle capable of performing under challenging conditions.

Threat detection, recognition, and identification system

Safety Dynamics, Inc., announces SENTRI (Sensor Enabled Neural Threat Recognition and Identification), its breakthrough neural technology for threat detection. The gunshot and explosion detection technology is designed to be the most versatile and cost-effective system on the market today. The system uses breakthrough neural technology that recognizes gunshots and explosions and sends range and bearing details to cameras, which can then locate the source of the event in less than one second. This same technology can now also operate in the anomaly mode to detect fights/brawls, breaking glass, elevated voice, screeching tires, vehicle crashes, and other disruptions while still detecting gunshots and explosions as an added feature.

Clandestine lab DVD-based training

The Emergency Film Group offers Response to Illicit Drug Labs, a DVD with a 27-minute training film plus a bonus film: Hazmat for Meth Labs and includes a customizable PowerPoint presentation for instructors. It describes how methamphetamine is processed and manufactured, discusses respiratory protection and protective clothing, outlines steps that response agencies should follow when preparing to raid a suspected drug lab, and examines the criminal aspects of a drug lab. The action-filled footage of realistic training scenarios illustrates the hazards encountered at active labs, boxed labs, and dump sites. Running times are 27 minutes for Response to Illicit Drug Labs and 8 minutes for Hazmat for Meth Labs.

Photochromic ballistic sunglass

Revision Eyewear offers the Photochromic Hellfly Ballistic Sunglasses. Featuring rapid light changing technology, the Photochromic Hellfly Sunglasses automatically darken to a sunglass tint when exposed to sunlight and return to their clear state in the absence of UV rays, giving law officers a tactical edge in rapidly changing environments. Hearing protection device

SensGard Sensory Protection Solutions LLC is offering the SensGard Hearing Protection Device, which does not “block” excessive noise but channels it into small chambers above the earpieces where it is refracted and cancelled. Unlike earplugs, which are inserted into the ear canal, or earmuffs, which cover the entire ear, the SensGard device rests at the entrance to the ear canal where it draws hazardous noise away from the inner ear. The device is passive and uses no electronics or batteries. It weighs less than 2 oz.; its low profile does not interfere with gun stocks; it blocks harmful sound while allowing high speech intelligibility without distortion; and, when not in use, the units fold up for storage.

Geo-spatial tool and software

NEC Sphere Communications announces collaboration with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) to deliver robust interactive unified communications capabilities. The GeoViz product, a commercial off-the-shelf, WebCentric GeoSpatial Collaboration tool suite provides 2-D, 3-D, and 4-D views of geographic areas of interest to military, security, safety, and disaster management officials. It provides a service-oriented application-based, mission-oriented framework, allowing users and groups of users to compose their own specific mission-defined operational picture. The NEC Sphere software is designed to allow solution integrators to create applications that are tailored to customers’ needs. When combined with SAIC’s GeoViz collaborative framework, the solution can deliver shared VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) through IP phones or soft phones, instant messaging, and on-demand conferencing to different users across multiple domains.

Ballistics analysis system

Pyramidal Technologies Ltd. announces ALIAS, an advanced ballistics analysis system. ALIAS is a full 3D imaging, correlation, visualization, and confirmation system that builds visually rich 3D cartridge images and provides powerful software tools to analyze them using topographically sensitive colorization and adjustable light source and axis orientation. Image data are captured by an application-specific interferometer and processed with a 64-bit computing and application architecture, rapidly defining 3D data with patented algorithms and methodologies. ALIAS’s 3D cartridge images offer resolution of two microns. Its straightforward, three-step imaging/correlation/confirmation protocol promotes simple operation, quicker ramp-up times, and less margin for error. It also allows law enforcement agencies to export 3D scans and associated demographic data to other visualization packages or departmental systems.
