Research in Brief: Current and Future Law Enforcement Data Collections

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is the United States’ primary source for criminal justice statistics and the primary statistical agency of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The mission of BJS is to collect, analyze, publish, and disseminate information on crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, and the operation of justice systems at all levels of government.

BJS, led by Dr. Alex Piquero, is an active participant in data-driven efforts. Team BJS strongly supports the use of data to inform crime and justice policy and decision-making. Further, BJS aims to disseminate those data to police leaders and other stakeholders in ways that are useful and interpretable to them.
