The use of force by police has come under intense scrutiny in recent years. A few notorious tragedies have awakened people to the realities of the police function and what the police do to maintain order, sometimes mistakenly and with tragic results. The body-worn camera (BWC) has been endorsed as a tool of police accountability, but the new tool is likely to be viewed with suspicion by some officers, much in the same way the police dash-cam video came under suspicion years ago. This study examines the perceptions of working police officers concerning the use and implementation of police BWCs before implementation and after a year of experience working with them.
