Most investigators and law enforcement leaders recognize the value of skilled crime analysts, especially when it comes to connecting the dots that lead to the identity of perpetrators or to close cases. However, as society becomes more fluid and crimes cross multiple jurisdictions, law enforcement needs to be able to make connections across regions in real time. In New York, hundreds of agencies, led by the state’s Division of Criminal Justice Service (DCJS), have banded together to solve this challenge, quietly building a network of crime analysis centers over the last decade.
