Supporting Injured Officers: A New Focus for the IACP Foundation

Kenneth Baribault, an officer with the Nassau County, New York, Police Department (pictured above), was nearing the end of his shift in the early morning hours of May 18, 2008, when he pulled over the driver of an SUV for apparent drunk driving on the Long Island Expressway (LIE). While Officer Baribault was waiting for assistance in his cruiser, a second drunk driver, going over 80 miles per hour, hit the cruiser from behind. The impact threw the cruiser up six feet in the air. Officer Baribault hit his head on the roof of the car and his pelvis shattered, leaving him pinned in the car and unconscious with severe head trauma.
