The 21st century has already established itself as a landmark era for law enforcement. Increased public scrutiny, community-
police relations controversies, dynamic in-formation sharing via social media, and a sensational 24-hour news cycle have presented complex new challenges—many of which did not exist merely a decade ago—for law enforcement and public safety institutions. The scope and magnitude of these challenges require a proportional response, and advanced education is proving to be a powerful part of the solution. When carefully tailored around current law enforcement issues, education can increase the efficacy of contemporary policing approaches, enhance communication and community engagement, and help nurture a leadership succession system within agencies.
