While traffic stops are a routine part of a police officer’s duties, each stop carries risks to the officer, whether from the violator, vehicle passengers, or surrounding traffic.

According to the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund, last year, traffic incidents accounted for 37 officer fatalities, and of those, 10 were struck by vehicles, including during traffic stops.¹
