While cities and municipalities across the United States are setting their sights on achieving Vision Zero, on January 9, 2023, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released its latest projections for traffic fatalities in 2022.1
Nearly 31,785 people died in traffic crashes on U.S. roadways in the first nine months of 2022, a 0.2 percent decrease as compared to the 31,850 estimated fatalities during the same time in 2021.2 Although individual behavior cannot be controlled, there are steps that can be taken.
